Friend of the Devil - Bob Weir & Rat Dog

Bob Weir's Gamelan: “One Instrument With A Lot of Players”

"Though he is the youngest member of the Grateful Dead’s classic lineup, Bob Weir has gradually aged into a stately role as unofficial voice of the Dead Universe. So it makes sense that since Jerry Garcia’s passing 13 years ago, Weir’s longtime band RatDog has evolved from a primarily blues-and-roots-based collaboration with Rob Wasserman to viable keepers of the Grateful Dead torch, gradually digging deeper into The Dead’s canon and, more importantly, developing a unique style of group improvisation. Weir has also continued to collaborate with many satellite members of the Grateful Dead cosmos, from old friends to Levon Helm to more recent companions like Warren Haynes, with whom RatDog has spent much of the summer on the road. Below, Weir waxes poetic on his summer tour with the Allman Brothers Band, current fascination with Wilco and why Obama is America’s “last, best chance.”"

Bob Weir and RatDog keep tradition alive

"With Jerry Garcia's death in 1995, the Grateful Dead formally ceased to be. The band's legacy lives on, however, through its members' solo incarnations, including the Other Ones, Phil Lesh and Friends, and RatDog.

Those part-Garcia groups represent more than just the opportunity for the band's master musicians to keep working. For guitarist and vocalist Bob Weir, RatDog offers the chance to continue the Dead's grand tradition of constantly finding new interpretations of its most celebrated material..."

Bob Weir Feature

"In the pantheon of rock guitar Bob Weir may be the most mystifying and original player. He hasn't exactly been hiding—during more than 30 years with the Grateful Dead, Weir performed thousands of marathon shows, and he's kept rolling ever since with his own bands. And yet several generations of guitarists have watched and listened to him chime out chords for hours onstage and thought, what is he playing?"

New live recordings - Bill Kreutzmann, Jazz Fest, Bob Weir

From Munck Music:

"...On April 22nd, KBM Trio - the new power trio with Bill Kreutzmann (of The Grateful Dead), Oteil Burbridge (of The Allman Brothers Band) and Scott Murawski (of Max Creek) headlined the Green Apple Festival in Chicago. Later that same night the trio played a full 2 set show at Martyr's that had seasoned jam-band aficionados grinning in awe.

Luckily, we were there to capture a live multi-track recording of this event, which is now available on CDs and downloads. And - for a limited time - when you purchase the live Kreutzmann-Burbridge-Murawski Trio recording from Martyr's, we will include a FREE BONUS RECORDING of the trio's entire headliner performance at the Green Apple Fest!...And finally, as Bob Weir & RatDog are commencing their summer tour we'd like to remind you that Downloads of all 2008 RatDog shows (including the Beacon shows from New York City) as well as CDs and downloads from '03-'07 archives are all available at: RatDog Downloads.com..."

Bob Weir Joins Phil & Friends for Grateful Dead and Anthem of the Sun

from Relix.com:

"Last night Phil Lesh & Friends opened a five-night run at San Francisco’s famed Warfield Theater. To the surprise of nearly everyone in attendance, Lesh and his friends ran through a complete version of the Grateful Dead’s 1967 self-titled debut during their first set, with Bob Weir joining his estranged bandmate for “Cream Puff War,” ”Morning Dew,” “New Minglewood Blues” and “Viola Lee Blues.” Weir returned at the start of Lesh’s second set as the bassist jumped headfirst into the Dead’s 1968 sophomore effort Anthem of the Sun , which includes classics like “That's It For The Other One” and early rave-ups such as “Alligator.” At the end of the night, Lesh closed his set with the Buddy Holly sing-a-long “Not Fade Away.” With eight sets and eleven albums to go, it’s a fair bet that Lesh will run through the Grateful Dead’s entire recorded canon over the next few days. Phil & Friends will return to the Warfield this evening. As of press time, the venue's future is uncertain."
Night two they played Aoxomoxoa and Live Dead, which means tonight should be Workingman's and American Beauty...holy shit.
